Don't Hold Back, Just Tell Him

Philippians 4:6-8 (NLT) Part 3

"Don't worry about anything; instead pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God's peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus."

Out of all the verses in the Bible, this passage of Scripture is my favorite one. It is so simple, yet extremely powerful. When reading verses 6 through 7, I believe there are five easy steps that one can use to live out this daily walk called life.

Step 3: Tell God what you need

Is there something in your life that you need from God right now? It might be help with finances, healing in your body, or even for a prodigal to come home. I'm here to encourage you to tell God about it. An important part of this verse is the word "need." A need is something essential one must have to live. I may also add that a need is something that only God can deliver. At the end of the day, only God can provide, heal, and change the situations. We can only do so much in our strength. It is a joy to know that God is the only One powerful enough to meet our needs.

One of the pivotal revelations Jesus gave was to introduce God as our Heavenly Father-Abba. A good father loves, leads, protects, cares for, and provides for his family. Regardless of your experiences with your earthly father, know that God is ultimately the perfect Father. Because He is our Father, He loves to provide for us. So when we go to Him with a need, we begin to acknowledge that He truly is our Daddy and that He's the One capable of fulfilling our desires.

Now, you may be wondering why it is important to tell God what we need. Doesn't He already know everything? He most definitely does. We tell Him our needs because we have a relationship with Him. Our complete trust in knowing that He will do something about them brings us joy and peace! Being our good Father, we can rest well knowing that He will do what is best for us. If you need God to come through for you, tell Him what you need. Don't just think (or worry) about your problem, and definitely don't throw a pity party, but tell Him, and trust that He won't fail you. Remember, there's power in your words.

Prayer:

Father, I thank You that I can tell You what I need. You hear my prayers, and You answer my requests. Help me come to You first before I try to do anything on my own.

Amen
