A Peace That Provides And Protects

Philippians 4:6-8 (NLT) Part 5

"Don't worry about anything; instead pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God's peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus."

Out of all the verses in the Bible, this passage of Scripture is my favorite one. It is so simple, yet extremely powerful. When reading verses 6 through 7, I believe there are five easy steps that one can use to live out this daily walk called life.

Step 5: Live in a peace that provides answers, and protects our souls

This series has been on action steps that we have learned to use in our daily walk as believers. Those steps are to 1. Don't worry about anything, 2. Pray about everything, 3. Tell God what you need, and 4. Thank Him for all He has done. This week, we will be ending with the final instruction, which is, to live in the peace that surpasses our understanding. This peace is described as an overwhelming peace that is beyond our comprehension. I mean, think about it; God only wants to give the very best to His children, so it makes sense that His peace is to be something supernatural.

The definition of peace is "to experience freedom from turmoil and disturbance" or "a quiet and calm state of being." If you think about it, it seems that peace is the solution to just about everything. When it comes to any situation where it seems that rebellion or even violence is the answer, peace is the factor that truly changes the atmosphere. If we are to live our lives with an intentional mindset of being peacemakers, imagine the transformation and freedom our world can experience!

As people, our level of understanding is much lower than God's. If the kind of peace we are gifted with is beyond human comprehension, how phenomenal must it be? Only the God-given peace is enough to satisfy and overwhelm us all at the same time! This kind of security is one that only God can give. The world can never bring peace to our situations, but God can. That is why it is even more important we go to Him with all of our struggles, as God is the only one who provides a lasting solution. Even though peace is the answer to the world's troubles, it is only the peace that comes from God that can do something miraculous in the lives of others.

In addition to being the answer to all of life's problems, the true purpose of peace is to guard our hearts and minds in Christ. As a guard, God's peace protects all that is inside and keeps away that which is outside. Peace covers our hearts and minds from the anxious thoughts, trials, tribulations, and worries of life. Knowing you have peace as your defense, how can you live differently? If there is anything you are going through that you need God to intervene in, remember that God has given you your weapon, and that weapon of peace is more than enough for your needs.

Prayer:

Dear Lord,

I thank you for the peace that You have given to me. Grant me the wisdom to use it for Your glory, and let me change the world using the great peace You give. Thank you for giving me a supernatural hedge of protection against the enemy's schemes. Help me live a life that reflects the peace You've given me.

Amen

I love it when God's peace is referred to as a weapon. Thanks for reminding us. Let's be Gods peacemakers who walk with peaceful footsteps. (Eph 6)
