Strip Away What Separates

2 Corinthians 10:4-5 (NLT)

"'We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ."

If you are going into a battle of any kind, having a weapon is crucial. I believe that weapons are our defense against any enemy force that comes our way. Verse 4 tells us that the weapons we have are mighty ones and not the ones of the world. God gives us supernatural ammunition that fights not only in the physical realm but also, the spiritual. Prayer and praise are our greatest weapons. Prayer is the act of going straight to the Throne Room of Heaven with our direct messages to God. Praise is knowing that God is worthy, and then lavishing Him with our great adoration. They literally break down the barriers the enemy uses to barricade us. The role of these God-given weapons is to shatter any sinful stronghold we encounter in life. When we use our weapons, we are calling on the Kingdom of Heaven to fight on our behalf and asking on God alone to intervene in our situations.

Verse 5 gives us two key ideas. The first is to destroy every proud obstacle that keeps us from knowing God. As people, we want to be proud and see ourselves as superior to others, but God doesn’t like that. In fact, pride is one of the things that God hates (Jeremiah 50:31 tells us that God is against prideful people). If being proud is a human fault that God hates, how can we conquer it? Alongside using our great God-given weapons, humility is a way to overcome pride. To be humble means to wholeheartedly place the wants and needs of others above those of your own. The idea of pride is to build yourself up, but humility is all about seeing yourself without a lofty esteem.

The second idea is to capture all rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ. To rebel is to go against a rule or standard in order to satisfy your desires. God wants us to take hold of and capture these rebellious thoughts and turn them into obedience towards Him. The heart of obedience is a willing submission to God's authority. Instead of feeling the urge to live by our own standards, we must accept that what God says is best for us. Remember this; when the enemy fights us with overwhelming thoughts of pride or rebellion against God's will, know that God has provided us with His mighty weapons to help us overcome all obstacles, and to strip away what separates us from Him.

Prayer:

Dear God,

I thank You for the great weapons You have given me to pull down the strongholds of human reasoning, false arguments, pride and rebellion. Help me live a life of humility and wholehearted submission in obedience to You.

Amen
