As inquisitive people, we all have questions. Whether it be something about what we see here on Earth, or even something as complex as what we cannot see and might not fully comprehend, we all will still have questions. The same thing is true for our faith. So many times, these questions about who God is, and what goes on in the world He made just run rampant in our minds. That is why we are taking this next month to focus on some common questions you all have about our faith. We are going to be taking the time to dive deep into the Bible, find out what exactly it has to say on these things, and prayerfully gain some insight and answers. We pray that this series touches you in a way like never before and that you receive some understanding of what the Word of God has to say, but also reassurance in knowing that you are not the only one with questions.
How do I deal with my anxiety?
When it comes to anxiety, the overarching theme the Bible stresses to us is to not stress over anything! How ironic is that? We are reminded throughout Scripture to not even think about anything troubling to our hearts. Instead, we need to focus on the fact that God is in control, and a big part of that is wholeheartedly trusting that He knows what He's doing and that what He's saying never falls through.
Having anxiety, worry, and fear brings nothing good to us. If anything, all they do is trap and take advantage of us, shifting our gaze from the One who is in control to the things we think are out of control. God is consistent with us forever and always. There has never been a day when He was "off duty" and said, "Sorry humanity, it's my off day, so sin, you can take over today." That has and never will happen. Our entire life is in His hands, and we may not see and understand all He's working on, but once we get to our final destination, we can then look back and be reassured by the fact that everything was in His hands, and was working together for our good.
God always wants what is best for us always. When He tells us "not to worry about anything (Philippians 4:6)", "to cast all of our fears and anxieties on Him (1 Peter 5:7)", or even "to enjoy living in the everlasting peace He has given us (John 14:27)", He knows what He is saying. The solution to ridding our anxiety is as simple as this: give it to God, enjoy the peace that comes with that, and think about it no more. The weight of uneasiness is too great of a burden to carry on our own, but know that it is not too heavy for God. We are given a choice as to how we want to respond: we can hold on to our struggles and try and deal with them in our strength, or we could totally and completely surrender them to the Lord and fully trust in Him with all of our life's situations. The world loves to bombard us with those (anxious) thoughts, and the best, and if we're being honest, the only way to completely get rid of them is by shifting our gaze from what we think surrounds us and focusing on the One who stays with us through it all.
