I Have Questions Series: Who Am I? A Talk On Identity

As inquisitive people, we all have questions. Whether it be something about what we see here on Earth, or even something as complex as what we cannot see and might not fully comprehend, we all will still have questions. The same thing is true for our faith. So many times, these questions about who God is, and what goes on in the world He made just run rampant in our minds. That is why we are taking this next month to focus on some common questions you all have about our faith. We are going to be taking the time to dive deep into the Bible, find out what exactly it has to say on these things, and prayerfully gain some insight and answers. We pray that this series touches you in a way like never before and that you receive some understanding of what the Word of God has to say, but also reassurance in knowing that you are not the only one with questions.

Who Am I? A Talk On Identity

If I were to ask, "who are you," how would you respond? Would it be with your name, a clique you are associated with, or even a spectacular achievement you notably received and were honored for? You fill in the blank. Now real talk; as incredible as all those things are, none of them are who you are. When all is said and done, you'll know that your name is just another word, your social status is just a consolation from reality, and your achievements are just lists given to you for something you may have done. They may help to describe the kind of person you are, but none of them are who you are from a heart stance. Deep down, who you really are is whom God says you are, but who is that?

The verses found in the Bible that speak about our identity are all rooted in whom the Father says we are. Each and every single one of us was intricately formed by God and hand-crafted in His Image. There is a destiny set upon our lives that has nothing to do with our earthly talents but instead stems from our Heavenly and God-given gifts that help build up the Body of Christ.

So, if I were to propose the question and say, "who are you," or "in whom or even what is your identity rooted," could you take confidence in knowing who you truly are? Deep down, do you believe and understand whom God made you to be? The only thing we can place our identities in that will last is only Jesus. Every gift and reward the world offers will fail you, so take heart and place who you are in the one thing that will never fail you.
