A Treasure After Temptation

1 Corinthians 10:13 (NLT)

"The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure."

Every person on this earth has experienced temptation in some way or fashion. I believe that temptation is one of the enemy's greatest tactics when enticing us into sin. Temptation is the desire or urge to do something wrong or unwise. Satan's role in our lives is to keep us away from the things of God. He loves to tempt us into being against God's will, way, and word.

Even though the temptations may seem all-consuming, know that we have hope in getting out of that tunnel. Our hope Paul tells us about is that 1. we are not alone when going through times of temptation, and 2. God is faithful to us. As I said before, we all go through times of temptation. The enemy loves to try and get the best of us and entice us with a "glorified image" of sin that makes us want it. Thankfully, God is faithful to us in our times of struggle. His love and forgiveness are unwavering in our lives, regardless of how badly we mess up, giving us hope to be able to turn to Him always.

Another thing Paul mentions is that our temptations will never be more than we can handle. I don't know about you, but just hearing that phrase takes some weight off of my shoulders. When the devil's schemes are trying to surround us and bring us down, we can rest assured knowing that with God, we can make it through. In all honesty, God knows our max. He loves us way too stinking much to give us a burden too heavy to carry. As if that wasn't encouraging enough, we have the promise that God will show us a way out.

As we finish today, I want to leave you with this image. Imagine this: you are in a dark cave or tunnel, with barely any light for you to see. The darkness is so present, you can almost feel it encapsulating you. That hovering darkness is the temptation of the enemy. In that darkness are the faintest chirps of crickets and splashes of water droplets trying to get you to give in to this idea of no escape. You are weary, alone, tired, scared, and so many other emotions. In fact, you start to give in to the idea of no escape from this dark cave, and you regret walking in. But, all of a sudden, you hear the echo of a voice saying "over here, my child! Over here!" You follow that loving, compassionate, and faithful echo and eventually find yourself at the exit, where there is light again, life again, and ultimately, a way out. That is what the Father does for us. Be encouraged and know that there is a treasure after your temptations.

Prayer:

Dear Lord,

Help me to withstand the enemy in times of temptation. I know that I am not alone when I go through those times and I thank You for that. I thank You for Your faithfulness to me, and I am so grateful for the light, life, and love at the end of my tunnel.

Amen
