I have a little story to tell you, so buckle up, and enjoy the ride! ;) So, it's an early Saturday morning, and a young teenage girl is getting ready to go on a shopping spree at the mall with her friends. She is SO excited to walk around and try on a bunch of new outfits with the people she loves most! Now, the time has come for her to leave home so she can meet up with her friends, but then it happens: her wallet with all her money is missing. The same wallet she was (pretty mostly) sure was on her dresser just minutes before has now disappeared.
The first thing she does is retrace her steps and tries to figure out just where in her room it could be. Did she leave it on her bed, in her closet, or maybe even in her bathroom vanity? Fast forward 5 minutes, and this girl STILL cannot find this wallet to save her life! By this point, this girl's room has been stripped down to the bone, and every little corner and crevice is being searched again and again! It had become so tedious that she was debating going without money and just winging the rest of the day there.
When all hope seemed lost, she decided to slap a prayer on this situation because there seemed like no hope! A heartfelt cry to the Lord was all she could muster, but it was His response that shook her to the core. She heard a voice that was calm but straight, mellow and meek, yet straightforward, and He said this: [Genelle], I want you to passionately search for me, like you are for this wallet.
Instantly, I got it. All I could do was apologize to the prompting of the Lord and ask for the help and strength to search for Him, just as passionately as I was this wallet. Here I had been just going about my day, putting more effort into finding my $20 bill than I was the Lord. I believe that is a word for all of us to hear and take to heart. So many times, we become too busy and going through the repetitive motions of the day that we tend to forget to acknowledge the Lord and His presence. In Psalm 63:1(NLT), David says it so well. He said, "Lord, I earnestly search for you, and my soul and body long and thirst for you to come and quench the parts of me that are dry." These domains of our soul that are parched and arid need a refreshing only the Lord can bring. In order to even find that refreshing, we must strive to earnestly and passionately seek the Lord and the well of living water within Him.
