Show What You Don't Deserve

Matthew 5:7 NLT

"God blesses those who are merciful, for they will be shown mercy.”

The definition of the word mercy is to show compassion or forgiveness towards someone who deserves a punishment. As humans, we will inevitably mess up and need to be given mercy or show mercy. Honestly, it is so easy for us to ask for mercy from others when we wrong them, but when it comes to us giving the same grace and mercy to others, we struggle. You see, the heart of mercy is knowing and even accepting that you have been wronged or mistreated, but then being able to overlook all hurt and instead show compassion and love.

One of the greatest gifts and blessings God gives are His promises. In this verse, God promises to bless those who show mercy to others. It is one thing to read about this kind of lifestyle, but to live it out takes practice. Imagine this; Jesus, the Son of God, Creator of the World, chose to step down from His Kingdom in Heaven, to come and show mercy to me and you. If Jesus chose to look past all of our sins, why can we not look past the faults of others? What is stopping us from showing that same mercy to the world? You mustn't let your pride and pain get in the way of you sharing the great gift of mercy to others, no matter how badly they may have wronged you. Jesus didn't let our flaws get in the way of absolute forgiveness, so why should we?

Prayer:

Lord, I thank You for always showing me mercy. You didn't see my sins and wrongdoings as an obstacle between You and Your unfailing love. Help us show others the same mercy and grace You showed us.

Amen
