James 1:22 (NLT)
“But don't just listen to God's word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.
Picture this: You have been gifted an amazingly incredible piece of writing with instructions on how to live your life the absolute best way possible. You have access to life lessons to get you through practically any situation that could arise, and you even have some tips on how to deal with those around you! Instead of applying this (if you will) "Book of Life" to your life, you just read it a couple of times and maybe even listen to what it says if your feeling the Spirit that day, but never act upon it. How crazy does that sound to you? Well, guess what? More times than not, it is what you and I do with the Word of God. So often, we will literally let the words come in one ear and then drain so quickly out of the other, without even giving it time to sit, soak, and marinate in our souls for us to act upon it.
I just love how straightforward James is; he literally says that by doing this, you are only fooling yourself. Now, talk about cutting straight to the point! It's so true though; this is why I think it is important for all believers to do this and want to take a step further in their faith. As harsh as this may sound, knowing it is something it is crucial we can live by. We need to stop acting foolish and only allow ourselves to listen, but never act. Let us be confident in taking our faith just a step further.
