The Sermon On The Mount is famously known as Jesus' most well-known sermon. This message comes from Matthew 5:3-11, and within that passage of Scripture are nine blessings from the Lord. Those blessings were made to encourage us as believers, and be the turning point to truly look in God as our hope. Over these next few weeks, we will be taking time to break each of these blessings down, so enjoy!

Matthew 5:3-11 NLT

"God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs. God blesses those who mourn, for they will be comforted. God blesses those who are humble, for they will inherit the whole earth. God blesses those who hunger and thirst for justice, for they will be satisfied. God blesses those who are merciful, for they will be shown mercy. God blesses those whose hearts are pure, for they will see God. God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God. God blesses those who are persecuted for doing right, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs. God blesses you when people mock you and persecute you and lie about you and say all sorts of evil things against you because you are my followers."

The word mourn means to lament and show and experience great grief or sorrow. Because of how much sin is in our world, everyone has experienced mourning in at least one shape or form. So you see, the thing about being in a place of desolation and mourning is the intense, immense, and overwhelming feeling of loneliness and hopelessness. That feeling of there being no escape is what the enemy loves to trap us into believing.

I'm here to remind and encourage you to know that those feelings are not true. In fact, when we are in our darkest hour, the Lord comforts us eve then. The meaning of the word comfort is to ease and alleviate the feelings that come with mourning, and that is what God does for us. No matter how low your valley is, remind yourself that God's comforting hand can still reach you. No matter how dark your tunnel seems, know that His presence will still light your path. No matter how lost, distant, and broken you may feel, take comfort in knowing that He designed you for so much more than what the enemy wants you to give in to. His comforting presence knows no bounds and can reach you whenever and wherever you are. Be encouraged today! And remember, this season of sorrow and mourning and pain is all in that hands of the Great Comforter.

Prayer:

Lord, You know my heart. You know all of the pain it has inside. I pray right now that You would fill me with the great joy Your comforting presence brings, and fill me with Your love until I overflow.

Thank You Jesus. Amen
