The Blessings Of The Beatitudes (Part 7/9)

The Sermon On The Mount is famously known as Jesus' most well-known sermon. This message comes from Matthew 5:3-11, and within that passage of Scripture are nine blessings from the Lord. Those blessings were made to encourage us as believers, and be the turning point to truly look in God as our hope. Over these next few weeks, we will be taking time to break each of these blessings down, so enjoy!

Matthew 5:3-11 NLT

"God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs. God blesses those who mourn, for they will be comforted. God blesses those who are humble, for they will inherit the whole earth. God blesses those who hunger and thirst for justice, for they will be satisfied. God blesses those who are merciful, for they will be shown mercy. God blesses those whose hearts are pure, for they will see God. God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God. God blesses those who are persecuted for doing right, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs. God blesses you when people mock you and persecute you and lie about you and say all sorts of evil things against you because you are my followers."

Peace is something everyone wants. Oftentimes, we will say that we want world peace as the answer to everything, but then, on the flip side seems that we give in to the complete opposites of peace. Here is what I mean.

To have peace means a freedom from disturbance, a time of tranquility, and having a sound mind. Peaceful times are the moment we all look forward to, yet it is only temporal. Everything this world offers is provisional only to this world and will never truly last. That is because it stems from a source that doesn't last. So, if worldly peace won't last, where can we get the peace that will prevail? Well, in order to have something that lasts eternally, you have to get it from something eternal. the only thing that can withstand time is God and God alone. In fact, time is literally in His hands. So, if it's an unremitting peace we want, we need to go to the Lord for it.

If I am honest, worldly riches, fame, relationships, or even success will satisfy you. At the end of the day, all that you put into achieving and gaining those things could have been used to strive for true peace. When all is said and done, it is the materialistic (and may I add temporary) peace bringers that can stop, and you are back at square one. This is why I am encouraging you to work towards the peace God brings! Living in that peace makes you literal children of God. Being His child means that His eternal never-ending-ness is bestowed upon us! Don't even bother chasing after something that will only provide you with temporal joy, happiness, and peace. Instead, put your efforts into striving after the one who will never fail you: Jesus!

Prayer:

Dear Jesus, please, do not let me get caught up in the temporary things this world has to offer. Let me put in the work to go after Your peace. I thank You that I am Your child, and I thank You for all that entitles for me.

Thank You Jesus.
